Ged: It’s been lovely having you here today, have you enjoyed visiting our Morson Projects design facility?

Ronak: Thank you for inviting us, we’ve really enjoyed it. It’s a big day for me and all of my fellow scholars as well. Hopefully this is a starting point for us to dream big and to hopefully work for Morson in the future and serve back all the amazing generosity you have given us.

Ged: It’s my father’s legacy to set up the scholarship at Salford University and to help students like yourself makes us very proud. More women in engineering is definitely required and diversity and inclusion is at the heart of our Morson core values. I know you’ve gone slightly different from some of rest of the cohort who have gone into aeronautical, you’ve gone more into the computer science and the data analysis field?

Ronak: Yeah exactly, this is my goal in the future, I’m so ambitious to be a part of the industry in the future in AI and machine learning, which is hugely in demand. Being a woman and receiving support from scholarship patrons like you is really important and I’m proud to be a part of this living legacy that Gerry Mason established in 2015. This means a lot for all of us.

Ged: Good luck with your exams and your graduation and hopefully you make your family proud. What would be good for us would be to see how you progress in your career, I’d love to fast track five years on and see where you end up. It’s a hugely in demand area as you quite rightly say, some of the new disciplines are only being created now and ‘data is the new oil’ as they say.

Ronak: It’s very important to know that industry cares about you too and you’ve presented the industry to us nicely, so we all have a positive attitude now of where we’re going in the future. The most challenging part of my degree is that I am the only student of this programme so, I am sharing modules with masters and computer science students. However, my interest in data and Morson’s incredible gift has helped me overcome any difficulties and lead me to set high expectations for myself and gain first class marks every year. I would like to mention that Morson Group’s scholarship has brought me peace of mind and happiness to my studies and encouraged me to be motivated and maintain mental and physical wellbeing during the pandemic.

Ged: It’s great to hear and it’s hugely important for us and other organisations to have close links with university students because you are our future bloodline and thank you for being our ambassador.

Twenty students from the two scholarship programmes headed down to the Morson Projects Office in Irlam to meet with colleagues at the organisation and find out about the job opportunities available to them in the future. The visit was also an opportunity to celebrate the success of previous scholars and alumni who now work for the Group.

The students then visited head office to meet with Ged and representatives from the Mason family and thank them for their extraordinary generosity and honour Gerry’s legacy.

Ronak Rasouli is a Computer Science and Data Analytics student in her third and final year of study under the scholarship. Morson CEO Ged Mason sat down with her for a chat about her studies so far and what her aspirations are upon graduation:

Salford University students of the Gerry Mason Engineering and Morson Group Scholarships programmes visited the Morson Group HQ to meet their donors and explore the future career and employability opportunities available to them.

Among them was Computer Science and Data Analytics student Ronak Rasouli.
